Title Sequence

Title sequence: The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror

This is an effective title sequence because it immediately hooks the audience. The theme is clear straight away; a spoof of the original title sequence but with the twist of horror. This is comedic and entertaining for the audience but also makes them wonder what will happen that is different to usual.
The music sounds a distortment of the original theme tune so the audience knows as soon as it plays that the programme will not follow the usual track. I like the sound effects they used too; they are imaginative and create tension with the clip.

There has clearly been a lot of thought into designing this creative sequence: it shows originality but the plot twist adds a creative spin to it. It definitely reflects the programmes ideas as it relates to the rest of the programme. The new unexpected theme also creates suspense of how it is different to the usual programme. The font of the credits fits in with the theme; they used a green coloured font that stands out and also fits with the horror.

In a criticism of this title sequence I think the credits could have been put in in a more creative way with the rest of the story rather than just on the TV at the end as people are less likely to read long lists than individual names spread out across the sequence. Adding it in such as on a sign that a monster is eating for example, would have been a more creative design.

Title sequence: Evil Dead

This is an effective title sequence because of the way the music, and clip work together. The clip has clever features of using dark colours like black and red, which portrays the colour of blood which is a typical element for a horror film, and the black signifies it is a dark kind of film, as well as horror films usually having a lot of dark films to create a scary mood. The two contrasting colours are typical for horror as it is effective for setting the scene and foreshadowing the future of the film which is usually gore.Throughout, the credits match the colour of blood that is in the background to give the effect that the writing is in blood.
The music builds tension and sounds like it is leading up to something which is also common in horror films to keep the audience guessing and the plot unpredictable. It creates suspense without revealing too much when and what will happen, although you can usually guess that something may happen when the music builds up.
It is not clear what the background is of; all the audience cans see is gory looking blood. This creates mystery and may foreshadow future events of the film. It may also make them want to watch on to see what happens and what the link is. If they are into gory films, which they probably will be as they are watching a horror, they will like the idea of lots of bloodiness and dark themes. The writing looks shadowed by the dark and the font seems to have what could be brambles or trees in the background. Considering the title is 'evil dead,' the brambles may convey that a graveyard will be involved at some point in the film. This is effective because it foreshadows future events of the film.
